from Remington Park
The training season is under way at Remington Park as the track prepares for its 20th season, which begins Aug. 21.
A 4-year-old filly named Emma Grace was the first to get an officially timed workout shortly after the racetrack opened at 6 a.m. CDT July 22. Owned by trainer Billy "Chief" Burress and his wife, Kathryn, Emma Grace breezed five furlongs on the fast main track in 1:02.16.
“She worked well and the track looked awfully good to me,” Billy Burress said. “We were pleased with everything.”
The Remington stable area opened July 21, and more than 200 horses were in their barns by the end of the day. Horse capacity will expand this season at Remington with the completion of two new barns the week of July 28. When finished, the new structures will bring the track's total barn number to 20 and will allow maximum horse occupancy of 1,464.
Remington’s 67-day season will run through Dec. 14. The normal weekly racing schedule will be conducted Thursdays thru Sundays. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with afternoon action at 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.
The track’s 20th anniversary celebration of racing is slated for Labor Day, Sept. 1, at 1:30 p.m.
