The Leopard, the highest-priced auction 2-year-old of 2007 and one of the top juvenile turf runners that year, has been retired from racing to stand at Haras La Quebrada in Argentina.
By Storm Cat, The Leopard captured the Generous Stakes (gr. IIIT) and Pilgrim Stakes, also on grass, for Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith. He retired with three wins from six starts and earnings of $173,700.
Bred by Eagle Holdings, The Leopard was bought by Demi O’Byrne for $2.5 million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida March sale of 2-year-olds in training from Hoby and Layna Kight, agents. The Kights had bought The Leopard the previous year for $1 million from Lane’s End, agent, at the Keeneland September yearling sale.
The Leopard is out of the Irish group-placed Mr. Prospector mare Moon Safari.
