Dat You Miz Blue dueled outside of Dream Supreme through the early going and then drew away to a 6 3/4-length victory in Saturday's $106,800 Vagrancy Handicap (gr. III) at Belmont Park. Under John Velazquez, Dat You Miz Blue sprinted home after completing the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.32 on a fast track.
"Once she breaks she gets into stride rather quickly," said Velazquez. "At the top of the stretch, I tapped her on the shoulder and she took off. It was an impressive race from her."
Dream Supreme held on for second, finishing two lengths ahead of Katz Me If You Can. Finder's Fee came home a neck farther back in fourth, with Lucky Livi coming home last in the five-horse field.
"She broke well and didn't get shut off," said trainer Bill Mott of Dream Supreme. "She was probably closer to the lead than where she would have been if there was more speed in the race. We had no excuse. Out ultimate goal is the Ballerina."
The win marks the second straight for Dat You Miz Blue, and her fourth in five starts on the year. Her only defeat as a 4-year-old came in the one-mile Bed o' Roses Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III), in which she finished sixth. The win is the first in a graded stakes for the James Jerkens-trained Dat You Miz Blue and the $64,080 winner's share of the purse boosted her career earnings over the $400,000 mark. Dat You Miz Blue (Cure the Blues - Emma Loves Marie, by Wild Again) was bred in New York by Landon Knight Stable and races in the colors of Cynthia Knight.
"When I had her last year, she was breaking all screwed up. Now she breaks much better," said Jerkens. "When they're as strong as she is, they get more confidence. I was happy with the outside post because she wouldn't have to stand in the gate too long and it looked like the outside was the place to be today."
The second choice at just under 2-1, Dat You Miz Blue returned $5.50, $2.40, and $2.10. Dream Supreme paid $2.10 and $2.10 and completed the $9 exacta. Katz Me If You Can returned $2.10 to show. (Chart, Equibase
