Zero Positives for Steroids at FT Sale

Terence Collier, Fasig-Tipton director of marketing, reported that all 22 yearlings tested for exogenous levels of anabolic steroids at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale, tested negative for the substances.

“In the comments, he (Dr. Scott Stanley, who performed the tests at the Ken Maddy Laboratory at the University of California Davis) said there was nothing that gave him even the slightest concern that there had been any steroid abuse in the horses that were tested,” Collier said.

Buyers could request the testing after signing the sale receipt and agreeing to pay the $500 testing fee. There were 305 horses sold during the July 14-15 sale, held at the sale company’s Newtown Paddocks near Lexington.
