Irish stakes winner Marino Marini came through with his first winner when a son, Miguel’s Mascot, set a track record at Del Mar opening day July 16. Miguel’s Mascot ran the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04.48 in his second start. He ran second at Hollywood Park in his first outing.
A homebred for Tom and Nancy Clark’s Rancho San Miguel, Miguel’s Mascot is the fourth winner from five foals of racing age from the stakes-placed Devil’s Bag mare Lovely Pet, a half-sister to grade I winners River Flyer and Victory Ride.
Marino Marini (Storm Cat—Halo America, by Waquoit) was grade I stakes-placed at Santa Anita. He stands at Rancho San Miguel near San Miguel, Calif. His 2008 fee was $5,000.
