Hastings Park and Emerald Downs racetracks announced the inaugural staging of the Can-Am Jockey Challenge.

The challenge will consist of a two-day, six-race series between four riders from Hastings Park Racecourse in Vancouver and Emerald Downs in Auburn, Wash.

The first three races will be June 29 at Emerald Downs with the final three races being held at Hastings Park July 2.

The makeup of each track's four-person team, plus one alternate, will be decided following this Sunday's card at both tracks.

A point system has been devised to choose the winning team and champion rider of the series. Twelve points will go to the winning rider of a race, followed by 10, seven, five, three, two, one and then one-half point for eighth. The point system covers all eight riders.

Besides bragging rights, the winning team will receive a perpetual trophy that will reside at the champion's track for one year.
