Australian industry leader John Messara has continued his international expansion by entering into a breeding agreement with one of the world's most famous racing and breeding figures, the Aga Khan, according to Chris Scholtz of racingandsports.com. Messara's Arrowfield Stud has announced the start of a breeding venture with the Aga Khan Studs in Europe.

Under the agreement, a number of young mares owned by the Aga Khan will be sent to Australia to be bred to Arrowfield stallions that include major sires Redoute's Choice, Flying Spur, and Hussonet.

The produce from these matings will be offered for sale at Australian select yearling sales.

The program will start this spring with six mares that are currently in quarantine in Australia after being shipped from Europe.

The mares include Zarakiysha, an unraced half-sister to Zarkava, the French champion 2-year-old filly of 2007.

The Aga Khan Studs are located in France and Ireland. They consist of Haras de Bonneval, Haras de St Crespin, and Haras du Val Henry in France, and Ireland's Gilltown and Sheshoon Studs.

Messara, who has previously forged major links with Japan's top breeders, including the Yoshida family, is a hot favorite to be named on the new five-man independent board that will take charge of New South Wales racing later this year.
