Heatseeker Scratched From Gold Cup

Californian winner Heatseeker has been scratched from the Hollywood Gold Cup.

Heatseeker, the 7-5 morning line favorite for the $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I), will be scratched from Saturday's race due to a filling in his left front ankle, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said June 27.

Heatseeker, winner of the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) and The Californian this year, was assigned high weight of 123 pounds for the 1 1/4-mile Gold Cup.

“I am sorry about it, especially with all the exposure we’ve gotten, but unfortunately we can’t run a horse with a filled ankle and some heat in it,” Hollendorfer said. “We deal with these problems on a daily basis, it’s unfortunate we have to with a horse like Heatseeker.”
