Trainer Todd Pletcher will saddle a trio of runners, Leah’s Secret, Mini Sermon, and Featherbed, for the Chicago Handicap (gr. III), going seven furlongs June 28 on the Arlington Park Polytrack.
Leah’s Secret (Tiger Ridge-Lady Cruella, by Capote) enters the race off a second-place effort in the Arlington Marton Handicap (gr. III) May 26. She also finished second in the Louisville Stakes (gr. II) May 2 at Churchill Downs. She began the year with an unplaced effort in the Sunshine Millions Distaff Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm campaigns Leah’s Secret, who they purchased for $525,000 at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November mixed sale from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Leah’s Secret, who has a record of 5-4-2 with earnings of $545,939, raced for First Klass Stable and trainer Helen Pitts until the time of her sale at public auction.
Pletcher’s Mini Sermon (Pulpit -Ministorm, by Storm Cat) enters the race off a third-place effort in the Fit for a Queen Stakes May 25 at Arlington. She began the year with a third-place effort in the Sabin Handicap (gr. III) Jan. 6 at Gulfstream Park. In between she finished unplaced in the Vinery Madison Stakes (gr. II) April 9 at Keeneland.
Mini Sermon races as a homebred for Edward P. Evans.
Leah’s Secret is listed at 5-2 on the morning line and will be ridden by Rene Douglas. Mini Sermon is listed at 6-1 on the morning line with John Velazquez aboard.
Featherbed, listed at 6-1 on the morning line and who will have the services of Jesse Campbell, is a daughter of Smart Strike out of the Capote mare Favorite Feather, and races for Sy and Bonnie Baskin.
Featherbed enters the race off a second-place effort in the Fit for a Queen Stakes, where she finished in front of Mini Sermon. She also finished fourth in the Shirley Jones Handicap (gr. II) March 29 at Gulfstream Park after finishing first and second in allowance company earlier in the year.
The Pletcher trio will face a tough challenge in Indescribable, who is listed as the 3-1 second choice. The Bill Mott trainee will be ridden by James Graham.
Indescribable (Pleasant Tap-Catnip, by Flying Pasture) races as a homebred for Don Adam’s Courtland Farm and enters the race off a win in the Arlington Matron, where she bested Leah’s Secret. She also has a second-place effort in the Doubledogdare Stakes (gr. III) April 18 at Keeneland, and began the year with a fifth-place effort in the El Encino Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita.
