Better Than Honour

Better Than Honour, dam of consecutive Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winners Jaziland Rags to Riches, won’t be bred again this year. The 2007 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year failed to conceive from a May 18 cover to major sire Distorted Humor  .

A 12-year-old daughter of Deputy Minister, Better Than Honour is owned by John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings and Michael Moreno’s Southern Equine Stables. She is out of the grade I-winning Blushing Groom mare Blush With Pride.

Better Than Honour also is the dam of 2008 grade II stakes winner Casino Drive. A son of Mineshaft  , Casino Drive was scheduled to run in this year’s Belmont Stakes, but was scratched the day of the race.

Jazil, by Seeking the Gold, won the 2006 Belmont, and Rags to Riches captured last year’s running over subsequent Horse of the Year Curlin. Rags to Riches, by A.P. Indy, was voted champion 3-year-old filly.

Better Than Honour, who aborted an A.P. Indy offspring this year, will be bred early next year. She is kept at Hill 'n' Dale near Lexington.
