Secret Status, the winner of the 2000 Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) but an upset victim in a sixth-place finish in the Louisville Breeders' Cup (gr. II) on May 4, completed her serious training for Saturday's Fleur de Lis (gr. III) with a strong five furlong breeze at Churchill Downs. The 4-year-old chestnut daughter of 1992 Horse of the Year A.P. Indy covered the distance in 1:01."I thought it was a real good work," said trainer Neil Howard. "She cooled out beautiful and she's doing well. She's trained good since that last race."Howard believes Secret Status is back in her best form for the Fleur de Lis -- but he remains cautiously optimistic. "I thought she was on her game for the last race (the grade II Louisville Breeders' Cup Handicap May 4, where she finished sixth)," he said. "Fillies can be a little bit puzzling some time. But she looks good and she's doing good."Also working toward the Fleur de Lis on Tuesday were contenders Bordelaise and Dreams Gallore. Haras Santa Maria de Araras' Bordelaise, winner of the Falls City Handicap (gr. III) last fall at Churchill Downs, breezed five furlongs in 1:01 3/5 for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. Gary Tanaka's Dreams Gallore, the runner-up in the 1999 Kentucky Oaks and third in the Louisville Breeders' Cup, breezed a half-mile in :49 2/5 for trainer Steve Asmussen. The list of likely starters in the Fleur de Lis includes: Secret Status, Saudi Poetry, Dreams Gallore, Bordelaise, Asher, Maltese Superb, and Royal Fair. Possible starters include On A Soapbox, Humble Clerk, and Star Queen.
