Sam Abbey has resigned as director of racing and racing secretary at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, track president Randy Soth said June 11. Abbey had served in the dual capacity for the past two seasons at the Louisiana racetrack.

“Sam expressed a desire to be able to remain closer to his Mid-Atlantic home base,” Soth said. “We appreciate his service and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Soth said the search for Abbey’s successor will begin immediately.

The next live meet at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will run from Nov. 14, 2008-March 29, 2009.
