Sought Out, dam of 2004 English champion and classic winner North Light, died May 23 of foaling complications at Ballymacoll Stud in County Meath, Ireland. The 20-year-old daughter of Rainbow Quest had delivered an Oasis Dream filly the day before.

Sought Out was a champion herself and regularly competed against males. Bred by Ballymacoll and campaigned in the colors of farm owner Lord Weinstock, Sought Out was a champion at 14 furlongs and beyond twice in France and once in Germany. Her big wins came in the 1992 Ciga Prix du Cadran (Fr-I) at 2 1/2 miles and in the Prix Kergorlay (Fr-II) over males. Sought Out also beat males in her German group III score.

As a broodmare, Sought Out produced three stakes winners. North Light, by Danehill scored his big win in the Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) the year he was champion. North Light, who also ran second in the Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-I), stands at stud at Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs Kentucky near Paris.
