Barbaro: The Horse Who Captured America’s Heart, written by Sean Clancy and published by Blood-Horse Publications’ Eclipse Press division, has won a 2008 Benjamin Franklin Award from the Independent Book Publishers Association.
The book was one of three finalists in the sports/recreation category. It also was a finalist for Foreword magazine’s book of the year award in the sports category.
The IBPA received more than 1,800 entries for the Ben Franklin Awards and presented winners in 52 categories. Eclipse Press had previously won a Ben Franklin for best mystery in 2000 for Great Horse Racing Mysteries – True Tales From the Track by John McEvoy.
Barbaro: The Horse Who Captured America’s Heart, which chronicles Barbaro’s triumph in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), his injury in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), and the heroic efforts of a dedicated surgeon and veterinary team to save him, is one of the most successful books in the history of Eclipse Press.
