(Edited press release)

The group “Fans of Barbaro,” is planning a three-day “Celebration of Barbaro” to be staged at venues around Delaware Park.

There will be a Cajun/Jazz Festival in Kennett Square July 11, a day at Fair Hill Training Center July 12, and a barbeque in the Grove at Delaware Park July 13. There will be an auction/fundraiser at Timothy’s in Newark, Del., July 12 from 7 to 10 p.m., along with nightly gatherings at Delaware Park.

Last year’s Celebration of Barbaro raised more than $20,000 for Thoroughbred rescue and laminitis research through Thoroughbred Charities of America. This year, FOB has planned a tribute to Eight Belles during the event, and a portion of the proceeds will go toward research into catastrophic breakdowns as well.

“The impact Barbaro’s triumph and ultimate passing had on his fan’s lives cannot be underestimated,” said Sharon Crumb, founder of the Celebration of Barbaro. “What we hope to achieve this second year is to continue the work with track safety and Thoroughbred rescue.”
