The prominence of the Barretts May sale of 2-year-olds in training has grown in recent years. In 2007, it posted all-time highs for its gross revenue and average price of $11,331,300 and $62,604, respectively. Two years ago, it produced a $2.5-million sale topper named Unbridled Slew (by Red Bullet) and generated a median price that equaled its all-time high of $27,000.

The latest edition of the auction is scheduled for May 13 beginning at 11 a.m. (PDT). It will be held at Barretts’ Hinds Pavilion on the grounds of Fairplex Park in Southern California.

There are 329 horses in the catalog. The group includes five 2-year-olds that each breezed an eighth of a mile in  :9 4/5, which was the fastest time for the distance. They were a Lion Heart--Rokeby Rosie colt; a Cactus Ridge--Sweet Emma colt; a City Place  --Brooks N Boots colt; a Gimmeawink-–Countrywishingwell colt; and a Not For Love  --Gallelujah colt.

The quickest worker at a quarter mile was a Harlan's Holiday  --Leading the Way filly, who was clocked in :20 4/5.
