Three years ago, Afleet Alex burst on the Triple Crown scene, taking the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes (both gr. I) with impressive performances for the Cash is King Stable, a group of small stakeholders who found themselves an outstanding horse whose name happened to sync with Alexandra "Alex" Scott, a brave 8-year-old girl who succumbed to cancer in 2004, but not before starting Alex’s Lemonade Stand, through which she raised more than a million dollars for other children with cancer.
The Cash is King crowd was ferried around to the Triple Crown venues by Lenny Tarantino, head of Afleet Limo Services. The white stretch Lincoln was a fixture in the barn areas of Churchill Downs, Pimlico, and Belmont Park.
Now, Tarantino is auctioning off the Lincoln, with a percentage of the proceeds going to help in the fight against cancer in children. Minimum bid for the actual limo that took the Cash is King group to the Triple Crown races is $23,000, in honor of Afleet Alex taking two-thirds of the Triple Crown. Interested parties can visit www.afleetlimousine.com and click on the "About Us" tab for details. Bids will be accepted through June 6, with the winning bidder announced the following day, which is Belmont Stakes day.
