Honor in War

Honor in War, a grade I winner and millionaire who spent the last part of his career racing in Australia, has been retired from racing, according to ThoroughbredNews.co.nz.  A hard-knocking turf runner, the 9-year-old son of Lord At War won or placed in 24 of 47 races and earned $1,264,705.

Honor in War raced in the U.S. for 3rd Turn Stables. Trained by Paul McGee, he won three stakes and placed in eight others. He experienced his best season in 2003, when he won the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes (gr. IT) and the Arlington Handicap (gr. IIIT).

Sent to Australia in the second half of 2006, Honor in War continued to race for 3rd Turn, but in a partnership. He won this year’s Villiers Stakes (Aust-II) and was stakes-placed last year. In what was his final race, he ran last of nine in the May 3 Patinack Farm Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Aust-I).

Bred in Kentucky by Mill Ridge Farm and W. Lazy T., Honor in War was produced from the winning Diesis mare Catumbella. Stud plans are in the works.
