Ness, Centeno Set Track Marks at Tampa

Trainer Jamie Ness and jockey Daniel Centeno set records for most victories in winning their respective titles at Tampa Bay Downs, which concluded its 82-day meet May 4.

Ness set marks for a conditioner at the Oldsmar oval with 68 winners and purse earnings approaching $1 million. He has now won back-to-back training titles at Tampa Bay.

Daniel Centeno, who was the 2006-2007 meeting’s leading rider, bettered his own record of 125 wins last season with 144 victories during this meet.  Centeno will take his tack to Monmouth Park over the summer and plans to return to ride at Tampa when racing resumes there in December.

In his first year of involvement in the Thoroughbred industry, Balkrisna Sukharan took home the top owner honors with 19 wins to his to his credit.
