Phone Trick Colt Tops Canadian Sale

A Phone Trick colt named Embattle sold for $110,000 (all figures in Canadian funds; $71,659 U.S.) to top the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's 2-year-olds in training sale Tuesday night at Woodbine. The sale had an extremely high number of buy backs.

Consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, he was purchased by Stubbs Investment.

The second foal produced from the stakes placed Bold Ruckus mare Embur Sunshine, Embattle is a half-brother to stakes winner Ten Flat (by Meadowlake).

The average was up from a year ago. On Tuesday, 33 juveniles were sold for $1,069,500, an average of $32,409. Last year, the 42 sold averaged $28,190 on a gross of $1,184,000.

There were nearly as many buy backs this year as horses sold. While 33 were sold, another 28 were listed as RNA (46%). Last year, there were 42 sold and 20 bought back (32%).

The highest price Tuesday for a filly was for an unnamed Mountain Cat -- Loa, by Hawaii miss sold by Mark Casse, agent, to Colebrook Farm for $65,000.
