Visionaire returned to the work tab April 22 at Keeneland for the first time since he finished fifth in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I). With regular rider Jose Lezcano aboard, Visionaire went a half-mile in company with the 4-year-old filly Scenery Change, both getting the distance in :49.60.
“He just did a little maintenance work here, and then he’ll do one more at Churchill,” said trainer Michael Matz about the
Grand Slam colt, who was third behind Pyro and Z Humor in the Risen Star (gr. III) before winning he Gotham (gr. III) prior to the Toyota Blue Grass.
Matz did not know when Visionaire would be shipped to Churchill Downs for the May 3 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), but said the colt would receive his final work prior to the Kentucky Derby on Monday, April 28 at the track.
