Two regally bred Japanese colts, Casino Drive and Spark Candle, are due to arrive at Belmont Park April 30, with at least one of them pointing for the 140th Belmont Stakes (gr. I) June 7.

Casino Drive, a son of Mineshaft  , out of the Deputy Minister mare Better Than Honour, will attempt to become his dam’s third straight Belmont Stakes winner. Better Than Honour’s offspring, Jazil and Rags to Riches, captured the Belmont in 2006 and ’07.

Casino Drive has started only once in his career, scoring an 11 ½-length maiden victory at Kyoto on Feb. 23. He is expected to prep for the Belmont Stakes in the $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) at 1 1/8 miles May 10.

Although Spark Candle has not raced since December and four of his five starts have been on turf, finishing 12th in only dirt start, he is by A.P. Indy, out of Hall of Famer Serena’s Song. His only victory came in Tokyo last October, which he won by a neck. No immediate plans for the colt were announced.

Both horses are owned by Hidetoshi Yamamoto and trained by Kazuo Fujisawa.
