Breeders' Cup and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association are expected to make a joint announcement in New York the last week in June regarding the repackaging of national stakes for racing, marketing, and sponsorship purposes.

The idea was floated late last year during the University of Arizona Symposium on Racing. Officials said "Breeders' Cup" will be retained as part of any new name, which has come down to one or two possibilities.

Some details remain to be hammered out in the next two to three weeks. It couldn't be determined whether all graded stakes will be used as part of a "road to the Breeders' Cup" program. Currently, Breeders' Cup employs a National Stakes Program which offers additional purse money for Breeders' Cup-nominated horses.
