Just three days out from the running of the world's richest juvenile race, the Aus$3.5-million Golden Slipper Stakes (Aust-I) at Rosehill Gardens, two major Australian stud farms have taken pro-active steps and gambled millions.

Arrowfield Stud, owned by John Messara, has purchased a 50% interest in highly fancied Slipper contender, All American (by Red Ransom), who despite drawing badly is given a major chance in the six-furlong dash.

The current ownership group will retain a 50% interest in the colt, who will now race in Arrowfield’s colors and be managed by Arrowfield. All American will continue to be trained by David Hayes and will stand at Arrowfield Stud, Scone, at the completion of his racing career.

Patinack Farm, owned by iron ore king Nathan Tinckler, has also speculated by buying into group II winner Sidereus (by General Nediym), who also is engaged in the Slipper. Sidereus has a win and two placings from five starts and earnings of $116,272. The favorite for the big race is the unbeaten More Than Ready   colt Sebring, who is trained by Gai Waterhouse. There will be 16 runners this year.

But the big news is the Arrowfield purchase. All American has won three of his four starts, suffering his only defeat when a close second to Reaan in the $1-million group I Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Stakes in February. He then won the group III Bluezone Skyline Stakes, closing from last at the turn over six furlongs in his first start in Sydney.

“I think All American is a very prospective colt and being by Red Ransom out of a Strawberry Road mare, he is relatively free of Northern Dancer," Messara said. “However, with the sire influences of Roberto and Mr. Prospector close up, he is well served to make a stallion. There are outstanding performers in every generation of his pedigree and he looks like a colt for the future.”
