Tattersalls Sale Starts Wednesday

Europe’s top juvenile auction, the Tattersalls Craven breeze-up sale, begins Wednesday evening in England. There are 194 horses in the catalog.

The 2-year-olds were put through their paces at the Rowley Mile racecourse Tuesday morning, and there were some impressive workouts.

Vendors have invested as much as ever before in stock to resell this year, with a glut of American yearling purchases on offer. Among them are a couple of $260,000 Keeneland September yearlings: a Giant’s Causeway colt consigned by Willie Browne’s Mocklershill Stables and, a son of Mr. Greeleyconsigned by Eddie O’Leary’s Lynn Lodge Stud.

Con Marnane’s Bansha House Stables sold group I winner Rio De La Plata at last year’s sale, and his large draft includes 210,000-guinea yearling purchase Benedicte, a Galileo half-brother to group I Middle Park Stakes winner Amadeus Wolf.

Marnane has 23 lots catalogued, an identical number to Willie Browne’s Mocklershill Stables.

"I think we saw some smart 2-year-olds this morning," said Tattersalls marketing director Jimmy George Tuesday. "The breeze (show) was extremely well attended and things went very smoothly."

The auction’s second session is scheduled for Thursday night.
