Courtney Carries on at Stonebridge Farm

Robert Courtney Jr., who worked as an integral part of the Crestfield Farm team for 31 years, will continue raising and selling Thoroughbreds at his 195-acre Stonebridge Farm near Lexington.

The younger Courtney will continue to represent both client and partnership horses with consignments at the Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton auctions.

“The business has been good to my family, and I want to continue to raise and sell good, honest horses,” Courtney said. “I have approached this business with a hands-on philosophy, and I feel that if you take care of the horse, it will take care of you. I have raised five champions since I started with my father in the late 1970s, and the work ethic he instilled in me has served me well.”

Courtney's father, Robert Sr., retired from the business in January. He launched Crestfield in 1956.

Positions held in the past by Robert Courtney Jr., a U.S. Army veteran, include president Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers' Club,  trustee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, director of the Thoroughbred Club of America, and trustee of Sayre School in Lexington.
