Evangeline Official David Yount Dead

David Yount, the assistant general manager at Evangeline Downs, died last week after a year-long battle with cancer.

Yount was instrumental in moving the Evangeline racing operation without interruption from its Carencro, La., site to Opelousas. He maintained the operation in Carencro while a casino was built and put into service in late 2003. Evangeline will add a hotel on the property this year.

“One of his legacies is the racing program we have here in Opelousas,” said Evangeline director of racing operations Steve Darbonne. “Every time we run, we know he’ll be at the finish line making sure we are all doing the best job we can.”
