Edited press release
A colt by Exceed and Excel was the top seller March 31 during the sixth session of the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions yearling sale on Australia’s Gold Coast. Consigned by Woodlands Stud, agent, the colt was purchased by Queensland-based buyer Alan Acton for $210,000.
The yearling is the second foal from the Entrepreneur mare Yum Yum. She is a daughter of the stakes-winning Kaapstad mare Slanchyvah and is a half sister to the group winner Dreamworks.
The combined statistics for sessions five and six -- the second of three sections in the yearling auction – included a record gross of Aust$11,011,500 for the 354 horses sold. The average price was Aust$31,108, and the clearance rate was 80.5%.
"We're delighted with the number of buyers at the sale, particularly the number of international buyers," said Magic Millions managing director David Chester. "Today we had buyers from Singapore, New Zealand, Korea, Macau, Hong Kong, the Philippines and the United States."
Trainers active during the sixth session included Bryan Guy, Shaun Dwyer, Bevan Laming, Rex Lipp, Michael Moroney, Pat Duff, Greg Hickman, Gillian Heinrich, and Bruce McLachlan.
"The buyers here are the smart buyers," Chester said. "They will be back next year - buying quality yearlings at great value prices. There are still some lovely prospects to come over the next couple of days."
