Four Roses Thoroughbreds’ Diamond Stripes, winner of last year’s Meadowlands Cup (gr. II), faces a tall task March 29 at Nad al Sheba racecourse in Dubai while taking on 14 in the Godolphin Mile (UAE-II).

Headlining the $1 million event on the Dubai World Cup program are a pair of local stars in Elusive Warning and Blackat Blackitten, two runners from the Godolphin stable trained by Saeed bin Suroor.

The Godolphin pair ran one-two, separated by a half-length, in the $200,000 Burj Nahaar-Muhtathir (UAE-III) March 6. Elusive Warning got the nod that evening, covering a mile in 1:35.43. A 4-year-old son of Elusive Quality   out of the Valid Appeal mare Valid Warning, Elusive Warning was bred by Robert Raphaelson. Blackat Blackitten, a 4-year-old by Inchinor out of the Fayruz mare Tara’s Girl, was bred in Ireland by Conor Murphy.

Diamond Stripes most recently was fourth in his 2008 debut in the Sunshine Millions Classic at Santa Anita. He finished up last season with an unplaced effort in the Breeders’ Cup Classic Powered by Dodge (gr. I) and a third-place finish behind A.P. Arrow and Brass Hat in the Clark Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs. A a son of Notebook out of the On to Glory mare Romantic Summer, he was bred in Florida by Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Rogers Jr.

Another American-based horse in the field is J. Paul Reddam’s Barcola, who will be ridden by Garrett Gomez. The Stonerside Stable-bred son of Old Trieste (out of the Kingmambomare Myrtle Beach) has not made a start since finishing second, beaten a head, to Evening Attire in the Queens County Handicap (gr. III) at Aqueduct Dec. 8.
