Michigan Racing Commissioner Christine White issued a racing license March 19 to Post It Stables for Pinnacle Race Course, a Thoroughbred facility under construction in Romulus in the Detroit metropolitan area.

In October 2007, White awarded Post It Stables racing dates for 2008 contingent upon the license. The track is scheduled to open in mid-July.

“I am very pleased to announce that Thoroughbred racing will continue here in Michigan,” White said in a statement. “Our office has worked with Post It Stables to make this happen.”

The track will be built on a vacant piece of land in Romulus that sits in Huron Township and Wayne County.

According to the Horse Racing Law of 1995, as amended, only three track licenses can be issued in the metro-Detroit area. This license was once held by Detroit Race Course and then issued to Magna Entertainment Corp., which relinquished it before construction in the summer of 2007. Great Lakes Downs, a Thoroughbred track in western Michigan, closed its doors in the fall of 2007.

The two other licensees in the Detroit area are harness tracks: Hazel Park and Northville Downs.
