Steve Asmussen’s 3-year-old colts have been in full view on the trail to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I). The trainer's fillies have been less visible, but his 3-year-old Sky Mom may get her chance to shine in the $200,000 WinStar Sunland Park Oaks March 16.

The 1 1/16-mile Sunland Park Oaks, which has drawn a field of seven, is ungraded, and only two of the runners have graded earnings. Sky Mom, bred in Kentucky by Woodlynn Farm out of the Sky Classic   mare Swiftly Classic, is one of them. The Maria’s Mon filly comes off a one-length win in the Feb. 17 Martha Washington Stakes at Oaklawn Park, her first score since a 2-year-old victory in the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies over Polytrack at Turfway last September. The filly arguably lost a chance at winning Churchill Downs' Pocahontas Stakes (gr. III) in her next start last October, when she was squeezed at the eighth pole and still finished a steady third behind Pure Clan to gain her only graded earnings. Jockey Garrett Gomez ships in to ride the filly from post seven.
Trainer Doug O’Neill will send out the only other runner with graded earnings, the Aldebaran filly Grace Anatomy. Second to Final Fling in the 1 1/16-mile San Ysabel Stakes (gr. III) Jan. 13, the filly has run in four grade I events. She finished fifth in the Feb. 9 Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) behind winner Golden Doc A over the one-mile distance in her last start. Bred in Kentucky by Phillips Racing Partnership out of the Storm Catmare Propriety, Grace Anatomy is owned by a partnership of Suarez Racing, Paul LoDuca, and J. Paul Reddam. Corey Nakatani will ride from post four.
Trainer Henry Dominguez may not have graded stakes contenders entered in the Sunland Park Oaks, but he sends out a threesome with Everest Stables’ homebreds Snake Proof and Bar Fly Blues and G.C. Coleman’s R Charlie’s Angel. R Charlie’s Angel and Snake Proof come off one-two efforts in the Feb. 17 Island Fashion Stakes at Sunland, while Bar Fly Blues broke her maiden Jan. 27 in an impressive 5 ½-length effort.
Snake Proof is a daughter of Petionville   out of the Storm Boot mare Bayou Boots, Bar Fly Blues is a Hold for Gold filly out of the Conquistador Cielo mare Connie Bar, and R Charlie’s Angel is a daughter of Indian Charlie bred in Kentucky by Brereton Jones out of the Cormorant mare Yes Ma’am.
Pierre Amestoy’s homebred Fast N Flirty, a daughter of High Yield, and Gulf Coast Farms’ homebred Distorted Humor   filly Distorted Passion complete the field.
