Saratoga Russell, who finished eighth as the 8-5 favorite in the March 8 Gotham Stakes (gr. III) Aqueduct, will undergo a myectomy March 13, according to trainer Rick Violette.

Saratoga Russell, who impressively won two races at six furlongs before making his stakes debut in the Gotham, displaced his palate in the 1 1/16-mile, two-turn race on the inner track.

“He’ll have the myectomy tomorrow,” Violette said March 12. “He’ll miss one day of training. We will start sprinting him again, and we will see after that. We know he does well sprinting, and we hope he continues the same good form he had showed us.”

Saratoga Russell, owned by West Point Stables, is a son of Trippi  . The colt won his second career start in November at Aqueduct by 7 ½ lengths and followed with a 10 ¾-length score in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park Feb. 9.
