Veteran breeder/owner Loyd Jones of Perryton, Texas, died Feb. 17 in Mescalero, N.M. He was 87.
Jones, who started with Quarter Horses and had a homebred of his run in the All American Futurity, bred 10 stakes winners, chief of which was grade II winner Lazer Show.
As an owner, Jones campaigned six added-money winners. Two of them, Catch the Phone and Lady Baiul, were homebreds and another, Guinevere's Folly, became the granddam of French and Irish champion Suave Dancer. Jones and Edward Seltzer were the breeders of Suave Dancer's graded stakes-placed dam, Suavite.
Jones, who was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Lou, is survived by three children as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
