Better Than Honour, the dam of Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winners Rags to Riches and Jazil, will be bred back to A.P. Indy after losing an A.P. Indy colt earlier this year, according to Eric Guillot of Southern Equine Stables.

“Better Than Honour aborted an A.P. Indy colt about a month ago,” Guillot said. “That was a crusher. I’d say that foal would have been the most valuable foal in the world. I was really looking forward to training the most valuable foal in the world.”

Better Than Honour had been confirmed in foal to A.P. Indylast year the day that Rags to Riches made history by defeating Curlin in an epic finish to become the first filly to win the Belmont Stakes since Tanya in 1905. In addition to Rags to Riches, who was voted the Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old filly of 2007, Better Than Honour is the dam of 2006 Belmont Stakes winner Jazil.

Casino Drive, a 3-year-old son of Mineshaft  and Better Than Honour, won his career debut by about 12 lengths at Kyoto in Japan Feb. 23. Guillot said he was an underbidder when that colt was purchased for $950,000 by Hidetoshi Yamamoto at the 2006 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Casino Drive reportedly is being pointed for the June 7 Belmont Stakes, which would give Better Than Honour the opportunity to produce three consecutive Belmont winners.

Better Than Honour is boarded at John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm near Lexington. The daughter of Deputy Minister is owned in partnership by Southern Equine Stables and Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms.
