A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain that is expected to hit the Baltimore-Washington region forced Maryland Jockey Club officials to cancel live racing at Laurel Park Feb. 22.

“In light of the winter storm warning we thought it was in the best interest of all the parties-the horses, the horsemen, the jockeys and our fans-to cancel in advance,” said Chris Dragone, president and general manager of the Maryland Jockey Club. “The weather forecast is not favorable and this gives everyone time to make plans accordingly.”

Laurel Park, and its sister track Pimlico Race Course, will be open for simulcasting Feb. 22. Live racing is scheduled to resume Feb. 23.
