From Santa Anita Park
When 28-1 shot Cheroot prevailed in a blanket finish in the $98,650 Daytona Handicap, the Feb. 17 feature at Santa Anita Park, it triggered a massive three-day pick six carryover of $1,269,223 for the Feb. 18 holiday racing program.
The total pool on Presidents’ Day could approach record numbers for the 10-race card that gets under way at 12:30 p.m. PST. The Santa Anita record pool for a three-day carryover is $1,413,136, set March 2, 2004. The following day, it swelled to an all-time high of $7,302,848.
The pick six sequence Feb. 18 will begin with the fifth race and include the grade II, $150,000 Buena Vista Handicap for fillies and mares at one mile on turf.
