Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum's Morshdi took the lead with just over a furlong to run and pulled away to a 2 3/4-length victory over Falbrav in Sunday's Derby Italiano (Ity-I) at the Capannelle. Iberus came home third, three lengths farther back, with Vinnie Roe fourth of the 19 runners. Morshdi completed the 1 1/2 miles in 2:26 3/5 on good to firm turf.

A 3-year-old son of Slip Anchor--Reem Albaraari, by Sadler's Wells, Morshdi was bred in Great Britain. Jockey Philip Robinson guided the 3-year-old Michael Jarvis trainee to the victory.

The win marks the second in five career starts for Morshdi, who earlier this month finished third –- beaten by a neck –- in the Pearl and Coutts Newmarket Stakes in his seasonal debut. As a juvenile, he finished seventh in his lone stakes appearance, the Zetland Stakes.
