Odds on Winchell Thoroughbreds' Pyro, the impressive winner of the Risen Star Stakes (gr. III) Feb. 9, closed at 5-1 in Pool 1 of the Churchill Downs' 2008 Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

The “all others” betting interest was a solid favorite at odds of 3-1 as the opening wagering pool concluded Feb. 10. Support poured in for Steve Asmussen’s colt Pyro after his stylish stretch-running victory at Fair Grounds. The son of Pulpit   dropped from odds of 12-1 following the Risen Star, which he won at 4-5.

Pyro attracted the most action among the individual horses. Unbeaten 2-year-old champion War Pass also ended the pool at odds of 6-1. Court Vision was next at 15-1 and was followed closely by El Gato Malo (16-1) Monba (16-1), Majestic Warrior (18-1) and Crown of Thorns (18-1).

A final day wagering total of  $211,833 pushed the four-day pool to $439,379.

Pool 2 of the wager is scheduled for March 6-9, while the third and final pool is set for April 3-6.
