Hal and Patti Earnhardt’s unbeaten Indian Blessing, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2007, was the narrow 4-1 favorite in the first pool of the 2008 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager as wagering concluded Feb. 10.

The Bob Baffert-trained filly won the $200,000 Silverbulletday Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds Feb. 9.

The daughter of Indian Charlie held off a late charge by Proud Spell in the 1 1/16-mile test in a repeat of their 1-2 finish in last fall’s $2 million Grey Goose Vodka Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I).  The victory was Indian Blessing’s fifth in as many starts and boosted her into slight favoritism in the first of three Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pools.

Stonerside Stable’s Country Star and the "all others" field entry each closed at 9-2. "All others" consists of all 3-year-old fillies other than the pool’s 21 individual horses. Proud Spell wound up as the fourth pick at odds of 8-1. Unbeaten Golden Rod (gr. II) winner Pure Clan was the 10-1 fifth choice. Golden Doc A, winner of the $250,000 Las Virgenes (gr. I) Feb. 9 at Santa Anita, ended as a 32-1 risk despite her victory in the season’s first grade I race for 3-year-old fillies.

The pool’s final betting total stood at $65,219. There was $39,844 wagered on the final day.

Real time odds on the first of three pools in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager are available at: www.kentuckyoaks.com. The 134th running of the $500,000-added Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) is May 2 at Churchill Downs.
