Rollin With Nolan, a winner of five races and $241,194, was euthanized Friday after sustaining a leg injury in the Churchill Downs Handicap on the Kentucky Derby undercard. The 4-year-old son of Summer Squall won this year's Eillo Stakes at Gulfstream Park, his lone stakes win.He was on the Derby trail last year following an allowance win at Gulfstream and a third-place finish in the Turfway Spiral Stakes (gr. II) behind Globalize. An unplaced effort in the Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II), when he was hit in the eye by the whip of a rival jockey, ended that dream. The eye was saved through emergency surgery. Rollin With Nolan was euthanized at the farm of his owners, Sarah and Kenneth Ramsey, outside Nicholasville, Ky. He was bred in the bluegrass by John T. L. Jones Jr. and Bud Boschert from the Sauce Boat mare Pi Phi Hi D.After his breakdown at Churchill, the colt was taken to Rood and Riddle equine clinic in Lexington for treatment in an attempt to save him for a career at stud, but his lower leg was determined to be irreparably damaged. He was named for a grandchild of the Ramseys'.Rollin With Nolan faced the starter 15 times in his career, and collected a trio of thirds to go with his five victories.
