(Edited press release)

Kentuckyderby.com will now offer racing fans another way to experience the 2008 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) with the introduction of a journalism series focusing on memorable racing moments and personalities.

The first installment of the series is now available at www.kentuckyderby.com, the official Web site of the Kentucky Derby. “On the Muscle” will go beyond race recaps and contender information to provide in-depth looks at the horses and connections that have shaped America’s greatest race. The series begins by highlighting one of racing’s best rivalries, the 1978 battle between Affirmed and Alydar.  A profile on legendary jockey Bill Hartack is also among the featured pieces scheduled for later this spring.

“We hope that this series expands the reach of our Web site and offers horse racing fans the opportunity to experience the colorful history of the Kentucky Derby," said Jeremy Borseth, senior director of channel services and Internet operations for Churchill Downs. "We hope this writing series will be something that all Kentucky Derby fans will enjoy.”

Renowned horse racing journalist Paul Moran, who has covered the Thoroughbred industry for more than 30 years, will be the featured writer for the series.  Moran is a two-time Eclipse Award winner and has received a Red Smith Writing Award for coverage of the Kentucky Derby.

Churchill Downs vice president of racing communications John Asher, a five-time Eclipse Award winner for broadcast coverage of Thoroughbred racing, will write additional “On the Muscle” features.
