Museum Names Sheffer Curator
Sheffer, 31, began working at the museum in 2002 as an intern. Quickly moving up to a part-time position as collections manager, she began working full-time for the museum the following year. A native of Norwich, N.Y., and a racing fan since the age of 12, Sheffer described the promotion as a dream come true. “This is a goal that I’ve had and talked about and it’s worked out,” she said. “I love working in the museum field and with our permanent collections. I have always felt privileged working with the artifacts in the collection and finding ways to present them to our patrons in our exhibitions. “Being a part of a sport I enjoy so much was a goal of mine, but working with the collections is probably the most rewarding experience. I’m lucky. It’s an ideal situation for me.” Sheffer earned a BA in history in 1999 from he University of Cincinnati. She graduated from the State University of New York at Albany in 2002 with a master's degree in library science. While pursuing her graduate degree, Sheffer worked at the University at Albany’s M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives. |
