New Zealand jockey sensation Michael Walker equalled Lance O'Sullivan's New Zealand record of 162 wins in a season today. O'Sullivan set that total in the 1996-97 season.

Starting the day with 157 wins, Walker won with five of eight rides at Hawkes Bay. At the end of riding today, his season figures stand at 162 wins from 1050 rides.

The record-equalling ride was on Quality Tango, a 3-year-old Maroof filly trained by Grant Searle at Levin for Mrs. J.M. and P.A. Meiring, Mrs. M.F. and T.L. Pritchard and Mrs. A.L. and T.C. Taylor. Walker, who turned 17 on April 27, will ride next at the Marton Jockey Club meeting at Awapuni on Saturday. He has five confirmed rides already.
