Ohio trainer Jake Radosevich reached a milestone 1,000 wins when he saddled Lucky Uncle Jake to victory in the fifth race at Beulah Park Jan. 14.

The 5-year-old gelding, who Radosevich purchased this winter, was ridden by jockey Ivan Gonzalez, who guided him to a neck victory. Gonazlez has ridden many winners for Radosevich over the years.

Sprinting clear to a six-length lead, Lucky Uncle Jake was then was challenged by two other horses. He lost the lead momentarily but prevailed for the win.

Radosevich's mother, Jackie, reminisced when her son won his first race and finished nearly upside down as his too-large saddle almost slipped off his pony at Glendale Downs in 1978. “He’s always loved horses, watching them, and working with them," she said. "It’s his passion."

Jake Radosevich now runs his own training facility, complete with an indoor horse pool and track. Since 1985, his horses have earned about $6 million from more than 7,300 starts

Radosevich also races at River Downs and Thistledown in Ohio, and Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort in neighboring West Virginia. He has 14 leading trainer titles at Beulah Park and one at River Downs.
