Youbet.com just completed its busiest week ever. The Preakness Stakes (gr. I) and a handicapping contest held in conjunction with the Daily Racing Form
attracted $2.6 million in online wagers for the week ending May 19.
"The entire Youbet Network easily supported the week's significantly increased subscriber and handle activity, demonstrating our network's capacity for rapid expansion," said Ron Luniewski, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Youbet.
Youbet customers wagered $700,000 on the Preakness alone.
Luniewski said the company is prepared for even bigger days since it formed a new alliance with the Television Games Network. The joint track content and patent license agreement was announced Monday. Once Youbet.com establishes a wagering hub in Oregon, the company will be able offer online wagering for every major United States racetrack. Customers can expect access to the Breeders' Cup on Oct. 27 and to next year's Triple Crown races.
Currently, Youbet offers live racing from 61 racetracks in the United States and Canada. The agreement with TVG will add another 26 tracks that have exclusivity agreements with the racing network. TVG's racetracks contribute 45% to the national handle on Thoroughbred racing.
