The first reported foal sired by grade I winner Borrego is a colt born Jan. 12 at Marion Montanari's Marion Hills Farm near Ocala, Fla. Bred by Montanari, the colt is out of 7-year-old Valliant Dancer (by Valiant Nature), who is a stakes-placed winner with earnings of $155,425.
Borrego, the sole horse to win the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) and Pacific Classic Stakes (gr. I) in the same year, retired with earnings of $2,052,090. A 7-year-old son of El Pradoout of the Strike the Gold mare Sweet as Honey, Borrego stands at Wintergreen Stallion Station near Midway, Ky. The farm is owned by John Greely IV and his brother, Beau. Borrego's 2008 fee is $20,000.
