SPELLBINDER
2001 by Tale of the Cat-Thorough Fair, by Quiet American
A multiple graded stakes winner, Spellbinder is by Tale of the Cat – who also has one the 2008 leading freshman sire contenders, Lion Heart – and is half-brother to Whywhywhy, the sire of inaugural Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. I) victor Nownownow in his first crop.
Spellbinder has a double of Mr. Prospector, but Whywhywhy also owns that feature, and has a first crop stakes winner out of a mare by a son of Mr. Prospector. The Gone West line, and other Mr. Prospector/Bold Ruler or Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross should be particularly helpful.
Tale of the Cat has worked over a very wide range of sire lines, but some of the most notable include Hail to Reason through Mr. Leader, Roberto and Halo; Damascus, including Private Account; Naskra; In Reality, who should be very good here; and Wild Again. — by Alan Porter
