SHAKESPEARE

2001 Theatrical (IRE)-Lady Shirl, by That’s a Nice

By veteran turf sire standout, Theatrical, Shakespeare is half-brother to 2007 stakes winning Fantastic Shirl, and out of a grade I winner Lady Shirl. The distaff side of the pedigree is a real outcross, other than a cross of Raise a Native through Native Heritage, who is something of a relative to Alydar, a strain that has worked under Theatrical, and looks usable here.

Alydar’s genetic relative, Mr. Prospector is in the broodmare sire line of at least 14 Theatrical line stakes winners. Others that have been good under Theatrical include a Hail to Reason through Roberto and Stop the Music, and a number of branches of the Nasrullah line, including Riverman/Irish River; Blushing Groom; Grey Sovereign via Caro and Kalamoun; and Bold Ruler, via Seattle Slew, What a Pleasure and Tyrant. — by Alan Porter
