Millionaire Wild Desert, winner of Canada's greatest classic, has arrived for stallion duty at Joe and Anne McMahon's McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds near Saratoga Springs, N.Y. His fee is $7,500.
A 5-year-old son of Wild Rush, Wild Desert won or placed in a dozen of 20 starts and earned $1,042,674. At Woodbine, the Ontario-bred runner captured the 2005 Queen's Plate Stakes and then ran third in the Prince of Wales Stakes.
In the U.S., Wild Desert placed in seven stakes. In 2006, he was second to subsequent Horse of the Year Invasor in the Suburban Handicap (gr. I). He also ran second in that year's Clark Handicap (gr. I) and Meadowlands Breeders' Cup (gr. II) and Alysheba Stakes.
At 3, Wild Desert came within a half-length of Flower Alley in a runner-up effort in the Lane's End Stakes (gr. II). As a 2-year-old, he placed in the Kentucky Jockey Club (gr. II) and Dover Stakes.
Bred by Windways Farm, Wild Desert is out of the stakes-winning Desert Wine mare Desert Radiance.
