Jockey Teri Hunter, who fell from her mount Dec. 13 at Calder Race Course during the first race on the card, spent the night at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., after being diagnosed with a broken collarbone, three broken ribs, and a small puncture in one of her lungs.

“It’s a small puncture, and (doctors) think it will be OK. She should be coming home tomorrow,” said Hunter’s husband, trainer Allan Hunter.

Hunter, 38, was aboard the Tamara Stafford-trained Remmitance Man and was last in a field of seven at the start of the five-furlong event for maiden claimers. Remmitance Man, a 3-year-old Precocity colt who had yet to break his maiden in eight starts, made his move leaving the turn and was fourth at the head of the lane when he fractured a front left cannon bone and fell.

Hunter is expected to be on the sidelines for at least a few months to recover. Remmitance Man was euthanized.
